Project Description:

MDA provides product generation and analytical services using remote sensing data for a large commercial base. We use proprietary software packages to generate these products, and have an ArcGIS online portal for customer access to deliverables. This position will primarily support the development of data processing and visualization tools for the online portal.

Position Details:

Our Nepean, Ottawa office is seeking a student with a focus in Computer Science or significant programming experience for a 4-8 month term starting in May 2023 to support development of the online portal and visualization tools, and associated data preparation. We require a coop who is able to create, understand and modify scripts in JavaScript and Python; and who is able to develop tools for manipulating and visualizing geospatial data.

Overall the successful candidate would be treated similar to a new graduate joining our company, where tasks will be assigned relative to the level of schooling and experience achieved to date.

Responsibilities Include:

• Develop front-end visualization tools for the online portal;
• Develop Python tools for back-end geo-processing;
• Develop data pre-processing scripts as needed to support tools

Requirements (experience/skills):

• Working towards a Computer Science oriented degree;
• Proven programming and scripting skills, preferably within scientific applications;
• The preferred candidate will have experience in Python programming and JavaScript;
• Experience with ArcGIS would be an asset;
• Experience with databases would be an asset. Database experience with geospatial extensions would be preferred;
• Excellent problem solving skills;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
